Battlefield returns. Again. Of course, for a series that has been on the production line for a long time, such words sound somewhat pretentious, but in the case of the fifth part, you can safely say them. This is precisely a return to the roots from which one of the most popular network action franchises grew. Like Battlefield 1942, new creation DICE dedicated to the theme of World War II.
However, not everyone shares the joy of returning to the roots – according to many fans of the series, in the new part the developers are too free with historical accuracy, which is why the game itself looks more like a shooter in some kind of alternative universe.
Find out who is right and who is wrong, and find out what awaits us in Battlefield V, helped by the open beta test that started last week. We took part in it and are in a hurry to tell you about what we saw.
old friend
The focus is on the confrontation between the two sides in fairly large locations, with the participation of not only infantry, but also aviation, artillery and ground equipment. The gameplay tries to stay between arcade and realism, allowing anyone to find the version of the game that is closer to them. I just want to come in for half an hour and shoot – please. Feel like a cold-blooded sniper, shooting enemies from afar, or a gunner of a heavy tank, or maybe an airplane pilot? No problem! There is also a place for fans of hardcore, tactics and teamwork. It is not surprising that the franchise, despite its advanced age, is still popular.
IN BF1, released two years ago, players had the opportunity to travel to the battlefields of the First World War. It seemed like a logical continuation to move the next part to the period of World War II, but E.A kept the intrigue until the last, revealing the time and place of action BFV only this spring.
However, the announcement and the first gameplay footage immediately raised many questions among the gaming community. Some pointed out the too diverse ethnic and gender composition of the warring parties, others doubted the appropriateness of the mass use of almost single weapons and equipment at that time (like collimator sights), others complained about the varied appearance of the fighters. E.A And DICE all complaints were expressed unequivocally: this is their opinion and vision.
Open beta testing is a great chance to experience first-hand what World War II will be like, which is no longer a war of white people.
War has a woman’s face
According to DICE, V BFV players will finally be able to fight with whoever they want. This refers to the rich possibilities for customizing the appearance of the character, his skills and equipment. But in “beta” this is still sparse.
For our fighters there is a separate menu item “Your team”, where you can customize your characters and equipment. There are four main classes of infantry available – attack aircraft, medic, support and reconnaissance, three types of ground vehicles and three types of aircraft. Unfortunately, for now you can only change the design of weapons and attach certain upgrades to them. The ability to paint faces, change clothes and similar dress-up games have not yet been introduced. There is also no choice of specialization and skills for each class – for example, your scout can only be a sniper with a strictly defined appearance.
Weapon skins are also presented in a very meager set of several options. True, you are not allowed to paint the entire “barrel” at once, but in parts – for example, the butt or sight. You will have to buy sets for special points or unlock them by completing tasks. For the same points, weapons can be improved, and the upgrade branches are non-linear.
It’s a pity, but what caused the most controversy and discussion has not yet been possible to touch with your own hands. The answer to the question of the century, whether it will be possible to make a German stormtrooper a black Asian woman, is postponed until the release of the game.
Brothers in Arms
The appearance of characters and weapons, leveling up – it’s all lyrics. Let’s move on to more pressing issues, namely, directly to the battles themselves. Two maps are available in the beta test: “Rotterdam”, where you can fight on the streets of this Dutch city, and “Narvik” – the snowy coast of Norway. There are also two modes – the good old war for key points “Capture” and “Large Operations”.
For an initial acquaintance with a new game, the best place is “Capture” in Rotterdam. Constant firefights, explosions, whistling bullets and shrapnel – everything we love. The situation on the map is changing rapidly: one of the sides was just defending the last remaining point, and in a couple of minutes the enemy can be pinned to their starting locations. The ability to revive on any member of your squad (if he is not under fire, of course) and the quick capture of points lead to the fact that there is no clear front line.
In general, the squad in BFV – one of the key concepts. Soldiers of one squad can raise wounded comrades, even without the specialization of a medic, and without coordinated work within the squad with the participation of all available classes, it is unlikely that they will be able to successfully attack and defend. There is an acute shortage of ammunition in the game – if there is no support fighter nearby, you will have to constantly run to boxes with ammunition, which is fraught with the most dire consequences. Finally, the squad leader can, after accumulating a certain number of points, call support onto the battlefield – a supply box, a heavy tank or a missile strike.
However, you can safely run alone, https://bettingsitesnogamstop.co.uk/review/palm-casino/ not paying attention to the squad. It’s unlikely that there will be any increase in benefits for the whole side, but you can shoot from the heart, fortunately, “Capture” in Rotterdam is perfect for this. Snipers have a special freedom – only they can mark enemies, and even then with the help of a special spotting scope or flare.
But “Grand Operations” radically changes the gameplay. The game becomes more meaningful, battles no longer resemble a chaotic dump, and another important component of victory is added to teamwork – the construction and use of fortifications. No, they can be built in “Conquest”, but they are of very little use there.
Here, everything is different: the enemies are attacking from one direction, so timely erected fortifications allow you to cling to a key point and successfully defend it. You can only build in certain places, which are highlighted when you pick up a construction hammer. Barricades, trenches, entire fortified areas – they are very easy to build, but breaking them will be more difficult.
Speaking of destructible environments. While it leaves ambivalent impressions. A heavy tank cannot crush a passenger car, and I didn’t notice the gorgeous-looking wall shootouts in the videos. It will not be possible to demolish any building to the ground, however, the appearance of the map changes quite a lot by the end of the battle: breaks appear in the walls, convenient positions can become open on all sides, and fortifications will have to be built in their place.
Alternative History Lesson
As with any beta test, there are plenty of errors and bugs – after all, it’s not in vain that the developers decided to postpone the release to mid-November. Here is the banal inability to enter the game, and failures through textures, and the lack of rebirth, which can only be cured by restarting.
Narvik in the fog. The weather changes right during the battle – for example, in Rotterdam, in addition to fog, there can be a real downpour.
It’s harder to find fault with the quality of the picture: both snowy Norway and sunny Rotterdam look beautiful, and the designers try to emphasize the features of each map with the help of many little things. Newspapers blown by the wind on the streets of a Dutch city or a night snowstorm against the backdrop of a destroyed coast – each location has its own style.
With the looks of BFV There won’t be any problems for sure. The sound design is also excellent – and again there are pleasant little things: for example, after a series of successful shots, the sniper begins to count out loud each next kill.
In general, despite the rather small amount of content in MBT, it was interesting to fight in the “beta”.
As for the “blacks in the Wehrmacht” and other time paradoxes, like the “Sturmgewehr” in 1940, everything here is somewhat more complicated than it seems at first glance. Yes, World War II was a war of huge masses of people, where an individual was just a cog in the war machine. Standardization in uniforms and weapons hardly left room for the manifestation of one’s own individuality. But the fans Battlefield have long been accustomed to the abundance of opportunities for customization and a rich arsenal. And the authors simply have no choice but to leave realism in this regard overboard – first of all, the players themselves will not understand them. It’s boring, you know, to fight with two or three types of weapons, if in almost every previous part of the series there are dozens of them.
It is worth remembering that in the beta test we were able to see only a small piece of the future game, which promises to be a truly epic project. We are waiting for a single player campaign, co-op, various events and modes. Finally, don’t forget about the notorious “Battle Royale”, no matter how strange it may look in the context of World War II.
It’s difficult to please everyone and find the right balance between fun and realism, between a wealth of possibilities and historical accuracy. I’m glad that the developers still listened to the voice of the people – as it became known, the character customization in BFV there won’t be. Will this benefit the game and will it be possible? DICE repeat the success of the first part of the series dedicated to World War II – we’ll find out in two months.

these are not “definitions on the Internet”, this is terminology from the game “Perimeter”. Do you even read where you’re quoting from??
Well, I played and shit. It was especially annoying that the fucking bags on one of the machine gun points on Narvik blocked half the view of this machine gun. The Best squad at the end of the session looks like some kind of gang bang with three blacks and one Asian… This is disrespect for those players who appreciate the game since its release in 1942. DICE initially planned to introduce full character customization down to gender and skin color – where is it?? No, that won’t work.
While BFV leaves some strange impression. Like BF4 after BF3, like a sequel that no one really asked for. BF V is very similar to BF 1 visually, in my opinion. Plus the pumping is a little strange. I especially hate the interface, which is simply terrible on every screen. IN EVERY.
Still, it would be better to arrange a reversal and release BF 2152, with jump packs, running on walls, mechs and in general, EA release TF3 in a battle shell and there will be happiness.
I played the bat for a bit… and somehow I don’t want to buy it at all.
Squads of blacks and Asians – to hell with them, nonsense of course, but that’s not the main thing.
The Second World War and the absence of swastikas are also nonsense, but again this only plays into the atmosphere. God be with them.
Graphics and gameplay are excellent. It’s hard to find fault here, no matter how this is an AAA project.
But what really horrified me was the grinding and cutting of the game. It’s already clear that for every little thing, any customization and banal change of weapons, you need to grind, complete tasks, raise ranks and open fucking loot boxes. And on top of all this they are trying to sell me a season pass in order to open the remaining 50% of the game – which I am not entitled to for the full price.
Tired of milking – “Fuck you”.
Fsyo, I think I’ve spoken.
Content is important in BF. This is not a counter place where people come to shoot in the evening before going to bed. Customization should just reassure those who are enraged by blacks and Asians where there were none. At E3, it was this detail that spoiled the image of the game even before the gameplay was shown. And the moronic statements of Söderlund (or whatever his name is) added further negativity.
You know, I love BF4 for that same indescribable spirit of war, when you run into a building, shoot two opponents, jump out the window, an armored personnel carrier drives by, shooting at an enemy tank, a helicopter spins overhead, you shoot at it with an RPG, and then get stabbed in the back. This is great.
BF5… Well… Boring. In 10 hours in the beta, I saw vehicles at most 5 times (1 time I killed a tank, 1 time it stood somewhere on the road and fired at the wall of a building, the rest of the times it passed somewhere in the background, but it was of no use). There are always not enough cartridges, no first aid kits, after every respawn you run to the damn cooldown boxes, run around the corner, catch a stray bullet from a sniper holed up in a nearby building, lie on the ground and yell at the sky, simultaneously holding down the left button.
Plus an absolutely inhuman menu that slows down, doesn’t load, and can’t find the server until you restart the game. Honestly, I found the weapon upgrade menu completely by accident, going through all the items in the menu.
The conclusion is disappointing – I liked the beta code much more, although I got tired of it after 2-3 hours. I played 10 in BF5, but didn’t get any pleasure from it.
Of course, I understand everything, the current dislike for the code, etc., but to talk about some kind of meaningfulness of the shootouts in the bf and the “atmosphere of war” compared to the code is wut LOL 😀
Rich character customization in a first person game, whose model you won’t see even at the end of the map, when they show the best squad, because you won’t be there, because you crooked asshole teammates are bad. I hope they close the studio, I won’t even feel sorry for them.
Mark my words, “upgrading” weapons with non-rollback branches and grinding is a time bomb, like cards in Battlefront 2.
So you yourself admitted that this influenced the opinions of the players.
The number of pre-orders was also not affected by sandbags. If you don’t give a damn about the content, go sit in the cold, that’s where the soulless post-mortems belong, for whom the atmosphere of war is not important.
What’s the truth?? Battle was once incredibly hardcore? Maybe stretching pseudo-hardcore onto a casual joker made the game better? Someone asked for hardcore?
Or is this a typical comment trying to pass off the opinion of one group of people from -insert the date- as the opinion of others?
By the way, I’m waiting for the game. I really liked the gameplay, everything looks juicy, you just need to look at the release state and everything that will be delivered there. But most likely I will buy it because I want to play.
I played this BFV beta for about 3 days. I played a lot and tried different classes, techniques and game tactics. What can we say in general about what Dice showed us in this part?.
Firstly, the game is no longer about fun and pleasure. Actually, this is why I, like the majority of the new audience of Battlefield players, fell in love with this driving, crazy and wildly fun shooter.
Now, BFV has suddenly decided to become: about inappropriate hardcore, and stupidly ridiculous realism.
And before it was that in any part of this series, you could play online with other people the way you wanted. And not to the developers. Previously, the infantry felt quite confident: both against light armored personnel carriers, and against tanks and even helicopters, and various aircraft. No one tried to limit your fantasy of destroying the enemy on the battlefield.
And what we got: about 12-15 types of firearms, classes that are fucking unbalanced. In addition to this, +4-6 cards on the day of release, and in quotes “Super, a new mode for Battlefield, Battle Royale”.
Yes, it’s trivial because the players in this part of Battlefield stopped at least somehow helping their teammates. T.Well, if you think that they will pick you up here, throw you first aid kits and cartridges, cover you with fire. Most likely you are a super naive person. Because here, in this game, everyone doesn’t give a damn about you and your game, from a high bell tower. Here, you will experience all the pain of modern Battlefield gameplay, and anal pain, from entrenched noob snipers and campers.
What I wanted to say by this is that if I, or someone else, wants to feel hardcore and realism, then for such people there is Arma, Squad, Escape from Tarkov – God forgive me. In short, Fuck-This-Shit!
Well, kamon is a gaming term! It’s like “pumping” (although logically there should be something like “promotion”) or “shooter”, which translates as “shooter”. It is clear that a real army platoon sounds different, but you need to understand that each term only works within certain limits.
